My plans to retrace Captain Cook's unfinished voyage have been postponed a year while I work on the next Marine Diesel Basics book and get my new boat SV Oceandrifter ready for sea.
Where’s Dennison?
Kuan Yin is currently out of the water in L’Anse au Diable in Labrador, Canada. I’ll be sandblasting and repainting the hull, and rerigging in June before intending to depart across the Atlantic to the Azores in early July.

Hi Dennison,
Was thinking about you recently as I was in India, staying at an Ashram on the shores of the Ganga (a fair way north of Rishikesh, so lovely and clean). That’s one of your books I haven’t read, so I’m trying to track it down (I work part-time in a bookstore when I’m here in Canada so I’ll find it). I just stumbled across your site and am looking forward to reading more when I get some time. Sounds like you continue to live a life of adventure – as do I, I still credit you with getting me off my duff and on to Africa, all those years ago, and my husband and I have a shack (truly) in Costa Rica and learning Spanish is our primary hobby (plus I’m teaching yoga) – this winter will likely see us heading south from Oaxaca to as far as we can get in SA. Perhaps – I hope – we’ll connect again someday and catch up. Until then, happy, safe adventures to you.

Well Dennison you didn’t show up in Brighton & Hove so assuming you didn’t take the ship’s medical course at Southampton. I am off to Vancouver in October to see my son and hopefully buy a campervan so Janice and I can trip around North America in 2012. I will be in Toronto early November for a couple of weeks so if you are around drop me an email.

Dear Dennison:
I just finished reading your book – Savages: Life and Killing of the Yanomami – and found the material to be interesting and factual. I wrote my thesis in 1975 on Tropical Human Ecology of the Amazonia (Univ of Washington, Seattle) and discussed the challenges the native population was facing as the “colonization” of the Amazon was accelerating as a reault of the Trans Amazon Highway being constructed at that time. I plan to publish the original work and add a second part to the book that provides a current assessment of the state of the indigenous population (“savages”) as they struggle to survive the “civilization” process in Amazonia. Good to see you are under way.
I like the Spot map you are laying out. I am teaching Marine Radio for CPS and we are introducing the Spot and other units like it. If your map is still up for the next class I teach may I use it as an example.
I saw the pictures of your preserves, did you do the canning on board Kuan Yin? It is something I keep thinking about.
How are you being received along the Labrador coast?

Have enjoyed your writing for sometime now. It’s a pity though that you are not making them available in ebook form as ebooks are so very convenient on board a boat.
As you probably know, the Yahoo Tahitiana group has become dormant and Clive does not seem interested in it. Scot Johnkins and myself have attempted to to bring it back to life but Clive (it’s owner) has not responded to our requests. So we have started a new Yahoo group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TahitianaOwnersGroup/ . Which we hope can become vibrant and active. We are moderating all membership requests and first posts to try to keep out spam and “unsuitable” members/content. I am the owner of the Tahitiana “La Chica” (I built her and have had her for 23 years), Scot owns an Elco and is a close friend of Western Farmers grandson. So we have a real interest and commitment to the Tahitianna and to Farmers designs in general. I do not have your email so I thought to use this comment to bring the group to your attention. I hope you will consider joining us. A word smith of your talent who is also an owner and fan of the Tahitiana word be a real asset to our budding group.
